Disabled Travelers: wheelchair accessible theatres
Disabled travelers can easily go to concerts because theaters in Prague are wheelchair accessible. Ten theaters are suitable for disabled travelers and are wheelchair accessible. If you want to attend a performance in the National Theater, the Estates Theater or the State Opera, contact the theater’s ticket sales department. When booking online, you fill in a special field stating your needs.
The Prague cultural season runs from September to June. Opera performances have a translation in the surtitles, stage plays are only in Czech without translation. Laterna Magika performances are unique and have the advantage that there is no spoken word. Pop concerts take place in the O2 Arena, in the Liben district.
Theaters accessible for disabled travelers confined to a wheelchair
1. National Theater / Narodni Divadlo, Narodni trida 2
The parking garage is located close to the Vltava River. Persons with disabilities receive a three-hour deduction from their parking time. Address: Ostrovi 1.
Opera theater and ballet performances. The operas are often by Czech composers such as Dvorak and Smetana. Cinderella and Swan Lake are in the repertoire almost every year.
2. Estates Theater / Stavovske Divadlo, Ovocny thr 6
Mainly opera performances, but also ballet and stage plays. Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni is in the repertoire every year with several performances a month. This opera premiered in the Estates Theater in 1783, when Mozart lived and worked in Prague for some time. Don Giovanni is performed almost daily during the month of August.
3. State Opera / Statni Opera, Legerova 75
Opera and ballet performances, usually by non-Czech composers such as Verdi, Tchaikovsky, Puccini, Rossini, Donizetti and Prokofiev.
4. Nova Scena, Narodni 4
Both cafe Nona and the theater are suitable for disabled travelers and are wheelchair accessible.
Laterna Magika performances are a combination of pantomime, light effects and image projection. No knowledge of Czech is required as there is no spoken word.
Disabled Travelers and wheelchair-friendly concert halls
The main concert halls for classical music are the Rudolfinum and the Smetana Hall in the Municipal House. Both locations have recently been renovated and facilities for music lovers with disabilities have been added, such as a special parking places and special seats in the for wheelchair users.
Rudolfinum Concert Hall, Alsovo Nabrezi 12
Parking garage is located close to the Vltava River, at Alsovo nabrezi 2.
Wheelchair places are available at the ends of the first row on the ground floor in both Dvořák Hall and Suk Hall.
Dvořák Hall is accessible by elevator next to the ticket counters (entrance at 17. Listopadu Street) The doors open one hour before the start of the concert. The elevator is also accessible from the underground parking garage.
Suk Hall is accessible by the elevator next to the Rudolfinum Gallery, at the Alšovo nábřeží entrance.
Blind and visually impaired persons are allowed to bring their guide dogs.
2. Smetana Hall, Municipal House, Namesti Republiky 5
Entrance 10 cm obstacle but there is a ramp, then up via a (small) lift or the stairs, toilet accessible.
The 24-hour Palladium parking garage is located under the Palladium shopping centre, Namesti Republiky 1.
Smetana Hall is the home of FOK, Prague Symphony Orchestra. The program is a medley of popular and famous melodies from works by well-known composers.
3. Klementinum, Karlova 1
Concerts are given in the Mirror Hall on the ground floor and accessible for disabled and wheelchair-confined.
Classical chamber concerts, often organ concerts played on the eighteenth century organ.
4. O2 Arena, Ceskomoravska 17
Wheelchair accessible and designated seats close to the stage.
Parking close to the O2 arena opens one hour before the event and closes one hour after the event.
The O2 Arena has six floors and accommodates more than 18,000 visitors. It is the home of Hockey Club Sparta Praha. Music lovers come here for the pop concerts.
