Ginger and Fred Dining in a Dancing House
The breathtaking view and the mouth-watering dishes are the best recommendations for dining on the top floor of the Dancing House in Prague. The Ginger & Fred restaurant is popular, not only because of its special architecture, but also because of the dishes based on French cuisine, supplemented with international and Czech dishes. The Dancing House is home to the Glass Bar with roof terrace, Restaurant Ginger & Fred, an art gallery and a four-star hotel.
Restaurant Ginger & Fred in the Dancing House
The restaurant in the Dancing House is located on the seventh floor. A perfect place for a high quality breakfast, a tasty lunch or a romantic dinner with a view of Prague Castle. Take a good look around because the interior of Ginger & Fred is just as extravagant as the dancing house itself: businesslike at first glance, but when you look closer you discover details.
Restaurant Ginger & Fred: culinary delights
Ginger & Fred’s chef proves himself master of unusual combinations such as a salad with purple artichoke hearts, grilled squid and young broad beans. There is also a wide choice of meat dishes. The daily menu is better value for money than ordering a la carte. There is only a limited choice of vegetarian dishes, but the splendid view over the Vltava with the red-tiled roofs of Mala Strana beyond and the silhouette of Prague Castle and St Vitus Cathedral make up for it.
Dancing House: Ginger & Fred
Ginger & Fred refers to the dancing couple Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. Two graceful seven-storey tall columns resemble an intertwined dancing couple. A dancing house and French cuisine have a strong appeal. Lovers of modern architecture will want to see the inside of this remarkable building and at the same time enjoy dishes from the French cuisine. Come with a well-lined purse because the prices are as lofty as the view.
Dancing House: Modern Architecture
The Dancing House was designed by Frank Gehry, and financed by the ING bank. Initially, the building served as an office complex with Restaurant Celeste on the top floor. When the building first opened, it was quite an attraction because everyone wanted to see the interior and enjoy the view. When the novelty wore off, only businessmen dined here. But they stopped coming and Restaurant Celeste closed permanently. The Dancing House is now a hotel, Ginger & Fred restaurant, bar and art gallery.
Getting there
The Fred & Ginger restaurant is off the tourist trail in the Nove Mesto district. It is close to Karlovo namesti (Charles Square), the largest square in Europe, a green park in the middle of Prague. On the north side stands the New Town Hall, not so new after all, as it was built in the fourteenth century. An attraction close to this square is the Cyril and Methodius church with a small museum about the assassination of SS Commander Reinhard Heydrich in 1942.
